THIRD BIENNIAL CONVENTION

MONTREAL, JULY 04-05, 2015

 

A REPORT

The Third Biennial Convention of the Manipuri Association of Canada was organized as a two event program during July 04 and 05, 2015.

 

The program started with a joyous reception evening party at the Restaurant Cafe Royal, 5473 Avenue Royal Mount, Montreal, Quebec on July 04, 2015. The main Convention was also held at the same Restaurant Cafe Royal, 5473 Avenue Royal Mount, Montreal, Quebec on July 05, 2015.

 

A General Body Meeting of Manipuri Association of Canada (MAC) was held at its convention on July 05, 2015 at the Restaurant Cafe Royal, 5473 Avenue Royal Mount, Montreal, Quebec. The meeting was attended by members from all over Canada. Dr Rajkumar Singh, Deputy Chairman of Board of Directors MAC attended as a chief Guest and Dr Amuchou Soraisham, President of MAC presided over the Inaugural Session. The function started with the opening song “Manipur Eigini Eigini” by Bidyutparna Lourembam and her team.

 

Budhachandra Khundrakpam, Convener of the Local Convention Organizing Committee in his welcome speech, he thanks to everyone for coming the convention and appeal to all members to build MAC as a strong organization. Then Promud Hamom, as a Secretary, he presented secretarial report and gave brief description about MAC’s various activities and Projects.

 

A number of MAC members spoke about their feelings about Canadian Manipuri Diasporas and MAC and their pride in getting associated with it. The speakers were Raneshwar Phurailatpam (Saskatoon), Nilkumar Naorem (Toronto), and Joy Chabungbam (GTA).

 

In the inaugural speech of the chief guest Dr. Rajkumar recollects MAC’s initiative in removal of PAP. He also goes to say that through MAC; newly landed immigrants from Manipur are able to find a support system. He talks about Dynamic Manipur and the influence it has on the new generations. Dr. Rajkumar revisits the motto of MAC “With love and pride, we celebrate unity.”

 

The following resolution were passed during the business session of the association.

 

Resolution 1:

 

General body voting to decide on structure of Functionaries

Option 1: Executive committee + BOD chaired by President with 2 members from General Member and 5 members from Executive Committee

 

Option 2: Executive committee + Advisory Committee with 4 Members from senior member

 

General body dissolves the previous executive committee and BOD and votes for Option 2 (Executive committee + Advisory Committee) as the new structure of functionaries.

The business session was followed by three resourceful talks:

Diversity

  2. Rajkumar Singh What is in the Immigration Game?

A rich cultural program with children performance was organized after the fabulous lunch served at the Indian Restaurant. The following items made the cultural program a truly enjoyable extravaganza.

 

  1. “Shayon” a fashion show for fusion Manipuri women’s clothes as well as western dress by the designer Bidyutparna Lourembam from Montreal
  2. Four Manipuri songs by Sanayaima Lourembam, who mesmerized the audience with his melody
  3. “Thougal Jagoi” by the group of 4 Manipuri ladies from Montreal
  4. Manipuri Poem recitation by Natasha Naorem and Anamika Devi Kenny.
  5. Children Performance

The Convention was closed with Vote of thanks speech by Promud Hamom, the outgoing secretary of MAC.
