  1. MAC annual Report 2011-2012

 About MAC

Manipuri Association of Canada (MAC) is a non-political, non-religious and not-for-profit organization established with an objective of protecting the general interest of the peoples of Manipuri origin living in Canada and elsewhere in the world and to foster unity and collective growth among members of their community in Canada.

The history of Manipuri immigrants in Canada is only about two decades old. . The population though small is steadily growing into a vibrant community in Canada. MAC was formed out of an idea spurred into action by a spontaneous response from a large number of Manipuris living all over Canada to an opinion survey initiated by a small group in the month of April 2010. The activity culminated in a Grand Convention in Montreal during September 4-5, 2010 in which Manipuris from all over Canada participated.

The Organization came into existence during the convention by a unanimous decision of the General Body with the finalization of its Objectives and appointment of its Directors and Office Bearers. MAC will always endeavour to connect Manipuris in Canada with peoples and organizations in Canada and the world to promote peace, harmony and social progress.

President’s Note

MAC is two years old. The spontaneity and the vigour with which it was born in the summer of 2010 clearly spelt its significance to the Manipuris in Canada. It quickly sprung into action and accomplished some activities benefitting the Manipuris in India and Bangladesh and the global Manipuri expatriates as well. Manipuris in Canada should be proud of themselves.

MAC successfully connected all the Manipuris living scattered all over this vast country and rolled out welfare schemes for members in the first few months of its existence. I became the first member to benefit from this association when my wife Ibeyaima Hijam died in January 2012. My daughters and I were overwhelmed by the love and assistance extended to us by an organized Manipuri community in Canada.  We are deeply indebted to everyone.  We feel strong because of MAC.

MAC will grow as the Manipuri population grows in Canada. So will be its responsibilities and activities.  Already, our portfolio is loaded with pending works. And, we are mindful of it.

I, on the half of the Executive Committee would like to thank all members that enabled us to serve the community created for ourselves in Canada and the global community of Manipuris through strong support and guidance.

With Love and Pride we celebrate Unity!

Rajkumar Singh
